MedAssist: Patient Education, Medication Synchronization & Packaging - Clinton, Camanche, Fulton

What is MedAssist?

MedAssist is a trio of services designed to specifically help patients who struggle to take their medications as prescribed, or are otherwise at risk, and make their health goals more attainable through patient education, medication synchronization, and special packaging called MedPack, that ensures medications are always taken as prescribed.

Why have we launched this service?

We at Wagner have observed the common outcome of missed medications, or therapeutic failure due to the patient’s inability to put their prescribed regimen into action properly for too long, and we felt it was time to buckle down and change our model and develop programs that not only provide medications to patients, but ensure the safe and effective use of them after they leave the pharmacy. We’ve been proactive, and responded rapidly to the problems that the Affordable Care Act called upon all providers to solve. We’ve received the message loud and clear that medications simply do not work if they’re not deployed properly. We consider it an obligation to change and provide value in the ways our legislators have asked us to.

How does this make Wagner Pharmacy different from others?

Wagner Pharmacy still has traditional dispensing in its model, however we are turning our attention towards a true retail-based patient care model that collaborates with providers and the healthcare system as a whole more effectively. We have the systems in place to identify at risk patients, and the infrastructure to care for them on an ongoing basis, in collaboration with their providers. Our model is designed to augment the skills of your prescribing physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants. We aren’t taking the lead in your therapy, but we are ensuring that you can succeed on it after you leave the pharmacy, whether you’re on five medications or twenty. What does all this mean to me as a patient if I participate in MedAssist?

It means you can rely on Wagner Pharmacy to deliver far more than just medications. The item we dispense is the pharmaceutical, but the true product we deliver is your health outcome. We’ve built a suite of programs that feed back into the healthcare system that has diagnosed you and decided you need pharmaceutical therapy in the first place. You can rely on us for continuous, cutting edge patient care. We’re far more than just a pharmacy.

What does this mean to my prescribing physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician’s assistants?

It means they can rely on us to participate in your care while you go back to your normal day-to-day life. We interact with you on an ongoing basis, ensure you have your refills on time, and screen for therapeutic issues on a rolling basis. While you may only visit your provider once or twice a year, we’re at your service year round, and accessible to answer your questions about symptoms, drug interactions, or a suspected change in your health. We’re qualified to identify issues that may be concerning to your provider and have the systems in place to engage them when appropriate. They can rely on us to play a continuous role in your health, and engage them when issues arise.
